A revised quadruped template. This template should be used for all new four footed animal models. The old quadruped template is retained for backward compatibility. This version fixes a number of problems with the original template, and adds many new texture sections, as well as better support for various types of animals. Some highlights: - Eases UV mapping and texture painting by using cylindrical mappings where possible, and avoiding curved edges - The neck (as well as the tail) can be tiled, to enable giraffes(sp), long necked dinosaurs, and other similar animals. - Includes a trunk texture that can be used instead of the upper jaw on pig and elephant like animals, and can be tiled to form a long snout. - Includes lots of alpha channel enabled hair textures, that can be used for manes, beards, long hanging fur, etc. - Includes small details like whiskers, eyelashes, teeth, tongue, etc. that help making the animals look detailed. - The tail attachment supports both thin tailed animals like most mammals, and thick tailed animals like most reptiles. - Support for horns and antlers Some things to note: - Eyes are closed on the textures, and separate eye meshes should be used, with textures following the eye template (can be found in 3d_objects/body_parts/eyes/ ) - The underside of the snout base is used as the upper jaw when the snout is used. It is still a bit unclear how this should best be modeled and mapped, and might still change a bit - The alpha mapped claws can be used for small or low LOD models, and the finger and claw textures for bigger or more detailed models with geometry based claws. - On animals like cats and dogs the legs end by having the leg upper sides connect to the leg undersides. On animals like horses and elephants the legs end in either a hoof or flat leg bottom texture, that the leg upper and underside connect to in a cylindrical way. -- zzorn 2003-11-20
